LNP's Malone to retire from Qld politics

Liberal National Party MP Ted Malone is set to retire after more than 20 years in Queensland parliament.

The party has announced the assistant minister for emergency volunteers will quit his central coast seat of Mirani at the next state election.

LNP president Bruce McIver says the minister has served his cane-growing electorate with distinction since 1994.

"Ted has been a hard-working and committed representative for the people of

Mirani over the course of his parliamentary career," Mr McIver said in a statement.

"He has always put the interests of the people he represents first."

Mr Malone led a review of the volunteer firefighting services last year and has been opposition spokesman for a range of different portfolios.
