Police seek information after pedestrian death in Griffith, Canberra

A pedestrian who died after being struck by a school bus in Griffith has been named as primary school teacher Carolle Harrison.

Mrs Harrison died at the scene after being hit by the bus while trying to cross the road at the corner of Manuka Circle and Canberra Avenue, shortly before 4:00pm AEST on Wednesday.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident to come forward.

Mrs Harrison was a long-serving relief teacher at Curtin Primary School.

In letter to parents today, school principal Merryn O’Dea described Ms Harrison as a "much-loved" member of the school community.

"Our school community has suffered a loss with the sudden passing of Mrs Carolle Harrison. Mrs Harrison was very much a part of our community ... Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time," the letter said.

Ms O'Dea said there were no students from Curtin Primary on the school bus involved in the accident.

Mrs Harrison is the ninth person to die on ACT roads this year.

In Queanbeyan yesterday, a 71-year-old Canberra man died following a single-vehicle accident.

Police were called to Lanyon Drive about 11.30am after reports a ute had left the road and clipped a metal guard rail.

Acting Inspector Scott Tozer said the driver was found unconscious in his car. Police were investigating whether an existing medical condition may have caused the crash.

"With the assistance of some passers-by he was removed from the vehicle and CPR was conducted on the male. Ambulance arrived and assisted and worked on the man for 40 minutes, however unfortunately he was pronounced deceased at the scene," he said.
