Arson suspected in Adelaide unit blaze

Arson suspected in Adelaide unit blaze

Residents in a group of units in Adelaide’s north western suburbs were woken by explosions early this morning when an arsonist torched one of the units.

Police believe someone broke into the unit on Charon St at Taperoo and started the blaze at about 4am today.

Firefighters took 20 minutes to extinguish the flames and managed to save adjoining units.

“It’s scary because, I mean God, when you live on your own, we’re all on our own more or less here,” a resident in a neighbouring unit told 7News.

Two hours earlier, fire crews were called to another blaze on Regency Rd at Broadview.

A smoke alarm woke the two occupants and they managed to escape.

It is believed to have been started when a dog knocked over a burning candle.

Damage has been estimated at $150,000.
