Burst water main causes hospital headaches

A burst water main on Adelaide’s South Terrace has caused traffic delays and confusion for patients and staff at St Andrew’s Hospital.

Ambulances had to be diverted and many patients were forced to park several streets away and extra staff were called in to phone more than 100 patients booked in for the day.

A steady stream of water forced the road’s closure and sparked delays for motorists by the time Allwater crew arrived this morning.

“The taxi driver left me at the corner so I’ve had to walk down,” one patient told 7News.

Patients were told to avoid the main entrance and use Gilles St to reach the hospital instead.

Several private practices along South Tce were forced to cancel appointments altogether because of access issues.

The road has reopened in time for the afternoon peak hour.
