Morgan Huxley 'didn’t deserve to die like that'

The parents of the man accused of killing Neutral Bay man Morgan Huxley have spoken out over their son’s alleged crime.

Daniel Jack Kelsall’s mother paid tribute to the victim, saying "he didn't deserve to die like that."

A friend of Lynne Kelsall told News Corp that her 20-year-old son had never been in trouble before. She also said the family were accepting of his homosexuality.

Kelsall’s father Mark told Fairfax that they were all in shock over the arrest.

“We really feel for the Huxleys but we can't say much more at this stage..” He said.

The comments from the parent come as police try to determine the link between the pair.

Mr Kelsall was charged with murder on Tuesday, exactly a month after police found Mr Huxley dead in his Neutral Bay unit.

Court papers show the two men, who police believe didn't know each other, lived minutes apart in the lower northshore suburb.

Security video captured Mr Huxley walking into a pub near his house barefoot at 1.01am after spending the afternoon at a friend's engagement party.

He had a beer by himself and left through the pub's Ben Boyd Road exit just after 1.30am.

Mr Kelsall was seen walking near Mr Huxley as they cross Military Rd and walked towards Mr Huxley’s home.

It’s believed that Mr Kelsall followed him to his unit with the intention of having sex with him.

About 3am, Mr Huxley's flatmate found him with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he died a short time later.

According to News Corp, locals saw both the men at the same time in restaurants and cafes around the area however it didn’t appear that they knew each other.

On Mr Kelsall’s Facebook page, it says he worked at Sydney Cooking School however owner Brad Deverall says he was never an employee.

It's believed Mr Huxley ordered coffee from the cafe near the cooking school.

Kelsall appeared in Central Local Court on Tuesday where Magistrate Les Mabbutt formally refused bail and adjourned the case.

His lawyer George Breton said he would potentially apply for bail at his next court appearance on October 15.

Court papers also say Kelsall stole from Mr Huxley and police have charged him with one count of larceny however there was no indication of a break-in.

Mr Breton told reporters outside court that his client was cooperating with police.

"It's a very stressful time for everybody involved, he's doing everything to assist police with their inquiries," he said.

Asked if his client would fight the charges, Mr Breton said "that's a matter for later conversations".
