Hollywood hot shot swaps high life for slums

An Australian who made it to the top at a Hollywood studio has given it all away to help children living in poverty in Cambodia.

Once a multi-millionaire, Scott Neeson now lives in the slums of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, building schools and hospitals for the some of the country's poorest.

Scott, who has worked on some of Hollywood's biggest film sets, has thrown his fortune into his charity, Cambodian Children's Fund, helping orphaned, abandoned and abused kids.

Donations have been used to build new facilities, including schools and day care centres, as well as providing food and medical programs for some of the city's neediest children.

The life Scott leads now is a far cry from the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles.

He earned one million dollars a year as a Hollywood executive on some of the world's greatest movies, including Academy-Award winning Braveheart starring Mel Gibson.

But one holiday to Cambodia changed his life forever.

Scott decided to swap his high-life for the slums in a bid to help those much less fortunate than himself.

"They have given me so much more than I've ever given up," he told 7News reporter Nick McCallum

"This is just what was meant to be.

"If I'm fearful of anything it's the chance that this may never have happened. This is such a gift."
