Belair train commuters fuming over delays

Commuters on the Belair rail line have been left fuming again after services were plagued by delays this morning.

Several services on the newly re-opened line were delayed by up to half an hour, while others were cancelled altogether.

The line had been scheduled to reopen last week, but that was put back when a signalling issue arose.

It was then set to re-open on Saturday, but that deadline was missed too.

Commuters arriving at Adelaide Railway Station this morning were furious.

“Lots of trains didn’t even turn up this morning from Blackwood station,” one commuter told 7News.

“I’m very late for work.”

Shadow Transport Minister Vickie Chapman said: “The public expect that when tens of millions of dollars are spent and the new project is tested that they’ll have a reliable service in what services they have left.”

The Transport Department is now confident services are back on track.

“We had two mechanical faults, one was a pump that failed in our switching system, and the other was a train problem, mechanical fault,” Emma Thomas from the Transport Department said.

But after six months of substitute buses, some commuters were still able to look on the bright side.

“I’m just happy there is a train,” one commuter said.
