Wall collapses after car crashes into pedestrians

Four people have been injured after a car crashed into pedestrians and a brick wall, which then crumbled onto a witness providing first aid.

An 82-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman were walking along Prospect Rd at Prospect, in Adelaide’s inner north, just after 3pm when they were struck down by a car.

It is believed the driver suffered a medical episode, which caused him to veer onto the wrong side of the road.

“All we saw is the car just plough into there, we pulled over… the lady was on the ground, she had a head injury, so I took her scarf off and put it under her head and re-assured her,” witness Rebecca Tilbrook said.

While people tried to help those injured, the wall crumbled.

One woman aged in her 20s was administering first-aid and was hit by falling bricks, along with the already injured elderly man.

“She was leaning over the guy on the ground trying to help him and it collapsed on her,” Ms Tilbrook said.

“She got pinned under so I chucked all the bricks off her.”

Another man had a lucky escape.

“I was carrying the groceries back home… I felt the brick slam me in the shoulder,” Ryder Lambert told 7News.

The elderly pedestrians are in a serious condition in hospital, while the driver is stable.

The young woman who was hit by the falling bricks was treated by ambulance officers at the scene.
