Multi-car crash 'like a tornado'

Witnesses have relived a multi-car crash in Adelaide yesterday, likening it to a tornado.

A driver died at the scene and investigators are still trying to work out whether his medical condition caused the crash.

Natasha Edmonds watched the multi-car crash unfold from her office window.

Witnesses said the driver was slumped over at the wheel before slamming into cars stopped at the traffic lights.

“If you imagine just sort of like a tornado coming through and just cars going left and right…light posts, stobie poles, everything,” she said.

“There was a light post over here that was totally shredded.”

She ran to help, as did an ambulance officer and other motorists.

A 44-year-old Fairview Park man died at the scene.

His partner was trapped in their four-wheel-drive and had to be cut free.

“She was obviously in shock, she didn’t really say anything, she was just saying ‘I’m in a lot of pain,a lot of pain, get me out of here, I want to get out’,” Ms Edmonds said.

She is in a stable condition.

Witnesses are amazed someone else wasn’t killed

“A car actually flew over the top of his car, over his windscreen,” Ms Edmond said.

“He watched the car go over the top of him and very fortunately he only had a few scratches to his car and nothing serious.”
