Robbers flee armed robbery in Berwick with lolly stash

A pair of balaclava-clad thieves fled an armed hold-up in Melbourne's southeast with nothing more than a couple of bags of lollies.

Police say two men, one wielding a baseball bat, entered the milk bar in Mansfield Street, Berwick, making demands shortly after 9pm on Friday, May 3.

When the shop owner's 13-year-old son, who happened to be on the shop floor when the men stormed in, refused to comply, the incident turned violent.

Police say the men smashed a cash register and a computer screen on the counter.

The teenager's dad then emerged from the back of the shop and used a cardboard box as a weapon to scare the duo off.

The men grabbed a stash of lollies before fleeing.

No one was injured during the incident.

The first offender is described as being of slim build and approximately 170cm tall.

He was wearing a light-coloured hooded jumper with dark coloured sleeves, dark-coloured pants, a balaclava and was carrying a black back pack.

The second culprit is around the same height, with a slim build.

He was wearing a dark-coloured hooded jumper, dark coloured pants, UGG boots and a black balaclava.

The man was also carrying a large, dark-coloured roller bag on his back.
