Price 'never should have been released' from the Village of the Damned

When convicted pedophiles are released from jail, the question lies – where do they go from here? The answer: to the Village of the Damned.

Officially named Corella Place, the Village of the Damned is a facility in Ararat, Victoria, that houses sex offenders that are regarded as a high risk to the community.

Monitored with GPS ankle bracelets, strict curfews and constant supervision, the village is home to some of Australia’s most dangerous offenders.

There are 120 people currently on Victoria’s Serious Sex Offender detention and almost half of them are detained at Corella Place, News Corp reported.

Sean Christian Price was one inmate who was released too soon from the Village of the Damned.

The 32-year-old had spent time in the facility for prior convictions involving sex offences on seven females between the ages of 13 and 45.

In the months following his release, Price savagely attacked 17-year-old schoolgirl Masa Vutokic, murdering her in a Melbourne park last year.

The cold-blooded killer stabbed the teen 49 times in the head, neck and body before raping a second woman two days later.

“She started talking to a bird like… Snow White,” Price told police.

“I just had to f***ing kill her. She ended up in the wrong place.”

Price appeared in court on Friday, where he was sentenced to a minimum 38 years jail without parole.

Victorian Supreme Court Justice Lex Lasry said Price should have never been let go.

“In a catastrophic example of mismanagement, whether on the part of the Department of Corrections or the Adult Parole Board, the decision was made to release you into the community and then the order ceased to have any protective event,” Justice Lasry said.

“You were given the freedom to commit these offences in circumstances where that should never have occurred.

“How you were permitted to be released into the community ... is astonishing.”

He also said the chances of Price being rehabilitated was very small.

“Your immediate prospects for any form of rehabilitation are bleak at best, if not non-existent,' he said.

“In the absence of appropriate treatment, you are now and will remain a significant danger to the community for the immediate future.”

After Ms Vukotic’s horrific death, authorities reportedly relocated eight other high-risk offenders back to the Village of the Damned, News Corp said.

The facility recently underwent a $20 million renovation to add additional housing for more inmates.
