FIRST ON 7: The dumbest drivers in NSW

These videos show some drivers you really don't want to meet on the road.

They are the ones who are a danger to themselves and everyone else because they are using devices like phones, laptops and ipads while driving.

The first culprit on the list is a man seen behind the wheel typing on a laptop.

Even when the lights go green he carries on typing even as he drives away on the Cumberland Highway in NSW.

Truck driver Chris Kay admits he broke the law to record the footage but says he was sick and tired of noticing people driving while operating devices.

Mr Kay told 7News: "It's getting to the point where it's just getting ridiculous.

"I see it five plus times a day, I'm not making excuses, yes I broke the law, but I did it to show what was going on."

NSW Police have provided video of their own of a recent crackdown on distracted drivers and the results are shocking.

On James Ruse Drive, Rosehill the police officers pull up next to a driver, who was so busy chatting, he doesn't realise he's been caught.

This woman was pulled over on the same road as the culprit above and she kept hold of the tablet as police pulled her over.

This driver quickly tries to hide his phone but he is caught on the dash cam of the police officer on Briens Road, Northmead.

The penalty for these offences is three points, and a $311 fine, but they could easily have paid a much higher price.

Stuart Smith, from Traffic and Highway Patrol told 7News: “"I don't want crash investigators to go home and tell families their loved one is not coming home because they were distracted by a device."

Since the start of 20-13, 182 drivers have been caught using devices like ipads and laptops.

But mobile phones remain the biggest distraction.

More than 80 thousand people were fined over the same period and more than 1700 were in school zones.
