Man trapped by terrifying twister
The terrifying moment a man was cornered by a fatal tornado while driving on a US highway has been captured on camera.
In the footage, Sam Smith stops his car and seeks shelter under a bridge as the tornado wreaks havoc above him. He recorded the nail biting moment on his mobile phone.
The twister had a EF-4 rating, the highest category of tornado, and hit speeds of 320km/h. Two people died and 22 were injured in the tornado, which ripped through the US midwest state of Illinois last week.
In the video, Mr Smith wonders aloud what would be the best course of action.
“This is a tornado and I cannot tell which way it’s going, so I don't know how to get away from it.
“Yeah, I’d say it’s going to come right over me, I have honestly never been in a tornado before,” he said
He becomes more panicked as the tornado edges closer.
“I don’t know what to do except sit here, maybe duck down,” he said.
Mr Smith escaped unhurt and the only damage to his truck was reportedly a couple of dents.
