CHILDREN OF POLITICIANS IN TROUBLE

ROSSLYN HAWKE - Daughter of former Prime Minister Bob Hawke. Had a long struggle with heroin and her second son was born addicted to the drug in 1984. Convicted on malicious damage and drink driving charges in 2007 but has since turned her life around. Hawke's other daughter Susan Hawke also fell foul of the law over cannabis use.

NICK BRACKS - Son of Victorian Premier Steve Bracks, lost his licence for drink driving. He was a probationary driver and blew 0.129 after the crashing into a tree in 2007. A passenger suffered minor injuries.

PAUL REITH - Son of former Workplace Relations Minister Peter Reith, got himself and his dad into hot water over the misuse of a phonecard during investigations into a $50,000 bill.

TIFFANY FAHEY - Daughter of former NSW Premier John Fahey. Struggled with drugs after dropping out of the exclusive Kincoppal Rose Bay school. Mr Fahey took custody of Tiffany's children in 2001 and had limited contact with his daughter. Tiffany died in a road accident at Moorebank in 2006.

TIM HOWARD - Eldest son of former PM John Howard, charged with drink driving near Kirribilli House in 1999.

ANTHONY UNSWORTH - Son of Barrie Unsworth, died of heroin overdose in 1977 before Mr Unsworth became Premier.

NED SAFFIN - Son of former federal MP Janelle Saffin, arrested in relation to an armed robbery in July 2010, pleaded guilty to being an accessory.

AMY CARTER - Daughter of former US President Jimmy Carter, 19, arrested at anti-apartheid protest in 1985.

WILLIAM STRAW - Son of British Home Secretary Jack Straw, arrested and cautioned in 1998 for trying to sell a small amount of cannabis to a journalist.

JESSE JACKSON JNR - Son of former US presidential candidate Jesse Jackson Sr. The former Congressman was arrested and jailed in 2014 for misusing campaign funds and wire and mail fraud.

MARK THATCHER - Son of Margaret Thatcher. Pleaded guilty in 2005 to helping bankroll a botched coup plot in Equatorial Guinea in 2004.
