Search on for Adelaide charity store thief

Police have been led on a bizarre high speed chase through Adelaide’s north eastern suburbs, all because of a stolen, second-hand, floral arm chair.

Patrols spotted the arm chair in the boot of a Mitsubishi sedan in Modbury about 2.40am and tried to pull over the driver, but she sped off.

The chair fell out of the vehicle on Heysen Avenue, before the driver dumped the vehicle on Trellis St and fled on foot.

Two police dogs were unable to help officers locate the driver.

The chair had been donated to the Salvation Army’s Modbury store earlier in the night.

The Salvation Army said thefts like that occur almost every night, by people who are often not the most desperate.

“They often do re-sell them which is very disappointing,” Ryan Steele from the Salvation Army said.

But they said such thefts could be prevented.

“We strongly encourage our customers to donate during trading hours just to ensure that their generous donations do make it onto the floor.

The armchair - even with its matching partner which was left at the charity store - is worth less than $50.
