Airbus cleared of deadly Air France crash

The 2009 Air France Flight 447 crash that killed 228 passengers and crew was not caused by the Airbus itself, French safety investigators said.

The two black boxes recently recovered from the crash site contained cockpit voice recordings and flight data recordings which prove an Airbus A330 fault did not cause the fatal crash, sources close to the investigation told French newspaper Le Figaro.

Investigators from the French Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses (BEA) read the black boxes over the weekend, but had still not found the exact cause of the crash into the Atlantic ocean.

The Australian Business Traveller speculated that a fault by Air France or the crew on the flight may have caused the crash.

Investigators were set to release more information Tuesday night (AEST).

Airbus has not made a statement on the matter, while an Air France spokesperson declined to comment "since the BEA has not completed all the necessary checks".

The discovery of the wreckage and the two black boxes allowed investigators to complete their inquiries much faster.

"Everything that has happened since the discovery of the wreckage: finding the black boxes, raising them and the fact that they're still totally readable after spending two years at 4000 metres of depth, is totally extraordinary," a French government source said.
