Brave IGA customer, 66, chases down hooded thieves armed with studded poles
A frightened little boy watched on as a brave customer fought off two armed thieves in a Melbourne supermarket.
The robbers picked an IGA supermarket in Bentleigh as their target.
Wearing balaclavas, they ran into the store armed with wooden poles studded with nails.
As terrified customers watched on, they confronted the shopkeeper and demanded money.
When they attempted to grab a customer's wallet from the counter, they got more than they bargained for.
The wallet's owner, Chris Kelly, wasn't letting it go without a fight.
The 66-year-old chased them out of the shop and down the footpath.
The thugs then turned on him, hitting him with their wooden poles and inflicting deep arm wounds.
Though he says he knows he was risking his life, Mr Kelly said he had no regrets.
"They were scared, they were very scared, because someone had confronted them," he said.
The thieves got away in a silver Subaru.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
