WATCH: Man tussles with officers after attempting to ram police cars

A dramatic arrest has been caught on camera in a Tasmanian shopping centre carpark.

The driver attempted to run but was tackled to the ground by police after he allegedly drove his car at them with several children inside.

The 23-year-old is believed to be a person of interest in outstanding family violence matters.

Police approached the red four-wheel drive on foot and yelled at the man to get out of the car.

When the man attempts to flee, several officers pursue him and tackle him to the ground.

Tasmania Police released a statement saying two police cars were extensively damaged in the incident.

“The man in custody is believed to have received facial injuries and an injury to his arm during the incident," Tasmania Police said.

“Four children in the man’s vehicle are receiving medical attention as a precaution as a result of the incident in which the man drove his vehicle into several vehicles including two police cars.”
