Legendary actor Sir John Hurt has died aged 77

Legendary actor Sir John Hurt has died aged 77, several British outlets have reported.

After six decades on the big screen, including renowned roles in Alien, Elephant Man and the Harry Potter series, Hurt had been battling cancer and an intestinal complaint in recent years.

The two-time Oscar nominee announced in June 2015 that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Survived by his wife of 12 years, Anwen Rees-Myers, the beloved actor did not let his illness slow him down in his final years, starring in the Oscar nominated biopic of President John F. Kennedy’s widow, Jackie, currently showing in cinemas.
