Three killed, three others wounded in mass stabbing at New Jersey home

At least three people have been killed, and three others have been wounded in mass stabbing inside a home in the US city of Newark in New Jersey.

The fatal attack happened about 4pm Saturday (local time) at a Hedden Terrace residence.

Local news reported women, children and teens were among the victims, however police have yet to officially confirm the identities of the victims.

An eight-year-old girl, 11-year-old boy, and 23-year-old woman were reportedly killed, and among the injured were a 13-year-old boy and girl, and a 29-year-old woman, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray told CBS2.

A large police presence attended the scene.

No arrests have been made in the stabbing, however 26-year-old Jeremy Arrington is wanted for questioning, but is not being named as a suspect.

It is not yet known what lead to the stabbings and the conditions of the injured victims have not been confirmed.

Mayor of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka has described the scene “horrific and horrible,” telling local media it was “one of the most tragic and savage situations” he has seen in 20 years.

A US$20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in relation to the attack.

The incident came a day after two people were stabbed and their suspected attacker injured at New Jersey's Rutgers University's business school.

There was no indication that the two incidents were related.

More to come.
