Ducks cause traffic chaos in highway crossing

A family of ducks has caused chaos on a busy highway in the United States.

Incredible vision shows motorists swerving to avoid the troupe as they waddle across four lanes of the 35W near Mounds View in Minnesota.

Several cars nearly collide with one another.

While the family managed to make it to the other side unharmed, police have advised motorists not to stop for animals crossing the road.

Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Tiffani Nielson told the Star Tribune the risks were too high.

“People should not stop on the freeway for ducks," she said.

“It’s definitely a touchy subject. It’s not very kind, but the risk of a crash is high.

“I completely understand the connection to a mother duck and her babies, but if there was a crash which resulted in a fatal or serious injury, a driver who stopped for ducks potentially could face a criminal charge."

It's not known where the ducks were headed after their highway crossing.

This is not the first time humans have gone to great lengths to save animals, sometimes even putting their own lives in danger in the process.
