Statewide interest in SW waterfront hotel

An iconic Bunbury pub that has been closed for almost a month has attracted interest from buyers and operators from across WA, according to a Perth-based real estate agent.

Ascend Corporate director Lance White said there was no reason for the Parade Hotel not to be profitable but said it needed renovating to become a modern pub.

The pub, which was suddenly closed on April 15 in mysterious circumstances, was on Wednesday advertised by owners the Gatti Family for expressions of interest for its sale, lease or redevelopment.

Mr White said there had been considerable interest from a number of people who could either buy or lease the pub, located on the Leschenault Inlet.

He said the owners were reviewing the latest figures of takings but about two years ago, the pub had an annual turnover of about $5 million.

"I have inspected the hotel on a couple of occasions in the last seven days and it is a prime property for redevelopment or renovation," he said.

"Certainly, a property which is situated on the waterway has many options available to it - it has been a successful venue in the past.

"It has had quite strong turnover in the bistro and the bars and I think it needs to be brought into a contemporary alignment of the hospitality offerings that are currently available for it to fully realise its full potential."

About 30 people were left out of work after the pub's operator, Maggie Newton, closed the doors.

The Gatti family said it was "not in a position" to reopen the pub.

Expressions of interest for the pub close on June 5.
