The showbags are packed, the rides are ready and the gates are set to open for the 60th Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community Fair today.

Two days packed full of local and visiting entertainment will get underway at 10am inside Cruickshank Sports Arena.

The highly anticipated rock drilling competition is sure to be a main draw card for day one of the fair, followed by the return of the Coolgardie Equestrian Club, which will hold a show tomorrow.

Dozens of rides, games and prizes will provide constant fun throughout both days of the event, with a brand-new ride sure to get a lot of attention.

Warren Hill of West Coast Carnivals said the Starflyer made its debut at last year's Perth Royal Show and would be a welcome addition to this year's fair.

"You sit in the seats and go up a good 40 feet where you spin around at a reasonable speed," he said.

"It's nothing too scary - it's a good family ride.

"You definitely won't miss it. It's the tallest ride here."

Fair Society acting secretary Lorraine Reeves said the main stage was full of non-stop entertainment, including the Goldfields Brass Band, Veils of Gold Belly Dancers, multiple school choirs and local entertainers.

"We are glad to see a lot of locals coming back because that is what we are always looking for," Mrs Reeves said.

"We are really excited to see as many people as possible through those gates to celebrate our 60th anniversary with us."

Fireworks are set for 8.30pm tonight and between 7.30pm and 8pm tomorrow night.

Tickets will be available at the gate and children 12 and under get in free with a paying adult.
