Curls cut for good cause

Shimmer Hair Studio hairdresser Charli Ledwidge does the final touch-ups on Camille Camp's head shave.

Kununurra's Camille Camp says she is feels "amazing" after shaving her head at Gulliver's Tavern on Friday night and raising $13,800 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

More than 100 people turned out to the tavern to support the 24-year-old, who pledged to lose her curly brown locks by taking part in the World's Greatest Shave.

It was the third fundraiser held by Ms Camp, her friends and family, after they raised more than $2000 at a shopping night and $4000 at a quiz night earlier this month.

The final total included $3000 in online donations.

It has been 10 years since the Camp family relocated from their Kimberley cattle station to Perth for six months after Camille's brother James was told he had leukaemia.

The family, from Kalyeeda Station in the central Kimberley, were the first in WA to be provided with a unit to live in while James was undergoing treatment at Royal Perth Hospital.

Ms Camp said the event was packed with people who were "really getting into the fundraiser" and she felt elated that her initial goal of $2000 had been far exceeded.

Her mother Cheryl said she was "hugely proud" of her "amazing daughter" and felt glad the funds would help other regional families.

"Having somewhere to stay is a huge thing for people that are already going through so much," she said.

James was just one of a handful of people to go under the razor on Friday night, shaving one leg, one arm and an eyebrow for donations, while his father Peter shaved his moustache and head for $500.

Mrs Camp said the support received by her daughter's friends and her workplace, Addicted Studio, had meant the events had come together smoothly and successfully.
