Car sent flying after traffic light crash

A car has become airborne for almost 16 metres after hitting a traffic signal and mounting a kerb in Canberra's north.

A 29-year-driver from Tura Beach on the south coast of New South Wales failed to turn at the intersection of Coulter Drive and Ginninderra Drive just before midnight.

Officers said the station wagon launched into the air after hitting the kerb.

The man was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries at Canberra Hospital.

Police appealed for witnesses to come forward help explain how the accident happened.
