DJs warm for winter

Fashions by Zimmermann at the DJs launch.

Coats, culottes, capes and faux fur are far from the minds of anyone sweating it out in WA's searing late-summer heat but in Sydney, winter is well and truly on its way.

At the launch of David Jones' autumn/winter range last night, Jessica Gomes conjured 70s-style glamour in voluminous flares by Carla Zampatti, teaming a blue pair with a big-brim hat for the dramatic finale.

She also set cameras flashing in a two-piece by Jodhi Meares' workout label The Upside that showed off her paleo-honed body, a bright yellow body-con by Dion Lee, a sexy black lace number by Lover and an emerald long-sleeve Ginger & Smart dress.

Gomes, who grew up in Perth, was joined by ambassadors Montana Cox and Jason Dundas on the seventh floor of the retailer's flagship store, which was transformed into an elegantly seedy Melbourne laneway - complete with graffiti and mock power poles plastered with posters.

Drummers ushered in the models, who showed winter is something worth looking forward to.

The cold weather dress code will be sporty and manly - and that's just for the ladies.

Athletic-inspired pieces, including leggings and sweat tops, will be de rigueur - whether you're working out or not.

Lovers of Annie Hall-esque androgyny will be keen to embrace the onslaught of man-style suiting, including pin stripes and wide-bottomed trousers and even a modern take on winklepickers.

Florals and prints are carrying over from summer, including tops and skirts from Romance Was Born featuring May Gibbs' gumnut babies.

Other highlights included designer Rebecca Vallance, emerging Melbourne duo Strateas.Carlucci, bold, structured looks from Zampatti's daughter Bianca Spender and relaxed knits from Jac + Jack.

Myer will launch its autumn/winter collection next week.
