The tourist season is blooming for lavender farms around the Lower South West with visitors coming from all over to see beautiful gardens.

Pemberton Lavender and Berry Farm owner Debbie Mathieson said the Christmas and New Year periods were usually a boom time for the farm and it was no different during the holidays.

"You find a lot of people come down from Perth to check out the farm because it is a unique and relaxing place," she said.

"A lavender farm is a unique idea on the tourism market and there are a good variety of plants in the garden."

Mrs Mathieson said the best time to visit the Pemberton Lavender and Berry Farm was around spring to early summer when the garden looked its best.

"The main variety of lavender that we have is French lavender and it's a very forgiving type of lavender with nice colour," she said.

Mrs Mathieson said tourists regularly came for the cafe or the accommodation and were surprised by the garden.

"You often have photographers sitting in the cafe trying to get photos of the blue wrens flying around," she said.

"It's a scenic and idyllic place that people come and enjoy because it is so different from the city."
