The ways SA is thanking firefighters

While firefighters continue their battle against the Adelaide Hills bushfire in extreme heat, South Australians are taking the chance to thank the volunteers in any way they can.

A fruit and vegetable store in Adelaide’s north-east has gathered thousands of likes on a Facebook post is shared after donating more than $100 worth of fruit for the firefighters.

Golding's Gully Fruit Market owner Justin Golding delivered the 65 kilograms of fruit to the Tea Tree Gully Fire Station, leaving this receipt behind.

Another story that has gathered a huge response online is that of six-year-old Jackson Newman who gave his birthday cake to volunteer firefighters.

He had his birthday party cancelled when his family put its bushfire plan in place and evacuated their Birdwood home on Saturday.

When a family friend later visited collecting food for firefighters, Jackson offered up his chocolate birthday cake, which came complete with Transformers logo fondant.

It is not just on social media the emergency service personnel have been feeling the love, with many residents around the fire zone creating roadside 'thank you signs'.

By Tuesday afternoon, authorities said up to 38 homes and four businesses have been destroyed or badly damaged by the fire.

A total of 134 people have been injured in relation to the bushfire.
