An anxious wait ended late yesterday for thousands of school leavers who found out their final Year 12 exam results and university entrance rankings.

More than 350 checked their scores online within 15 minutes of their release.

Students' WA Certificate of Education exam results and Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks were posted online at 3.45pm, hours ahead of today's official release date.

Within 45 minutes, 2113 of the 8000 students who applied for a university place next year had viewed their results on the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre website.

Though Katie Paull, 18, was nervous about finding out her ATAR, she had the advantage of knowing she had already accepted the offer of an early place at the University of Notre Dame.

The former John XXIII College student was nominated by her school for the Fremantle campus' early offer program based on her strong academic record and leadership qualities.

She plans to study law and behavioural science.

Students have until Friday to change preferences on their university applications if they received an ATAR higher or lower than expected.

_The Weekend West _will reveal WA's top students and list all the award winners on Saturday.
