Joe Cocker: Entertainment industry heavyweights offer their tributes

The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of British singer song-writer Joe Cocker, paying tribute to him on social media.

The raspy-voiced, Grammy-winning artist, best known for his cover of the Beatles' With A Little Help From My Friends, died from lung cancer, Sony Music said.

Entertainment industry heavyweights, including Beatle Ringo Starr, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Lenny Kravitz, have remembered the singer on Twitter.

Cocker's cover of With A Little Help From My Friends was the theme song of the 1980s and 90s hit comedy-drama The Wonder Years.

One of the show's stars, Josh Saviano, lent his voice to the stream of tributes.

Closer to home, Australian singer Delta Goodrem revealed it was a Cocker song that inspired her parents to choose her name.

Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello offered his own tribute.

Cocker's fans were not just fellow musicians - actress Evan Rachel Wood, who appeared with Cocker in the film Across the Universe, and Michael Chiklis, known for his roles in the Fantastic Four film series, were also saddened to hear of the singer's passing.
