Child porn charges for Thornlie man

Child porn charges for Thornlie man

A 49-year-old Thornlie man will appear in court this month charged with possessing child pornography and using social media to search for victims.

Officers from the sex offender management squad assisted by specialist investigators from the online child exploitation squad executed a search warrant on the man’s home late last month.

The raid came after a three month operation into the man’s online activities.

During the search police seized computer equipment, electronic storage devices and a mobile phone identifying a number of alleged victims and child pornography images.

Police will allege the man was using social media to search for his victims.

The 49-year-old was charged with 15 offences including possessing child exploitation material, distributing child exploitation material, intend to expose a child believed to be under 13 to indecent material and using electronic communication to procure a person believed to be under 16 years to engage in sexual behaviour.

Further charges may be laid against the man as police continue their inquiries into his online activities.

He first appeared in court on November 22 and will next appear in Perth Magistrate’s Court on December 15.

Anyone with information relating to child abuse or exploitation is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
