It's hard directing Pitt: Jolie

Angelina Jolie admits "it's not easy" directing herself and Brad Pitt in By the Sea.

The 39-year-old star is currently shooting the film, which tells the story of a married couple's complicated relationship, in Gozo, Malta with her husband and says she is still getting used to working alongside him because "it's a heavy film."

"The tricky thing is directing myself and directing Brad. It's hard, dramatic material, and we're balancing," Jolie said.

"It's a heavy film, and it's not easy for us. But even as you struggle through it, you're in the trenches together and you don't expect it to be easy. We're challenging each other and that's a really good thing."

But the Oscar winner says her relationship with Pitt, 50, hasn't changed since they got married over the summer and "compared to Unbroken, this film is a walk in the park."

"I think when it's right, it feels the exact same [as before]," Jolie said.

The mother-of-six also admits it's "weird" having their 13-year-old son, Maddox, work as a production assistant on the movie.

The brunette beauty recently said she plans to star in "a few more" films, but says it is "absolutely" still her intention to give up acting completely to focus on directing.

"I've never been comfortable as an actor; I've never loved being in front of the camera," Jolie said.

"I didn't ever think I could direct, but I hope I'm able to have a career at it because I'm much happier.

"When it comes to being a director, it's so new for me and I'm quite shy about it because I'm still learning."
