Diplomat sworn in as Burkina Faso's interim leader

Ouagadougou (AFP) - Career diplomat Michel Kafando was sworn in Tuesday as Burkina Faso's interim president to steer the west African nation during a one-year transition back to civilian rule following the toppling of its veteran leader.

Kafando pledged to "respect and defend the constitution, the transition charter and laws and do everything to guarantee justice for all Burkinabes" as he took oath in the capital Ouagadougou.
