Warriors lose way against Tassie

Tasmania’s bowlers have unsettled Western Australia at Bellerive Oval, taking four wickets in Monday’s opening session to leave the visitors at 8-291 at lunch on day two.

The Warriors resumed at 4-231, with the opening hour of play proving crucial.

After nine overs, Shaun Marsh (19) was caught behind off the bowling of Andrew Fekete (3-61).

Paceman Sam Rainbird (1-54) then came into the attack for the hosts and quickly found a result.

Sam Whiteman (19) chopped at a Rainbird delivery but a bottom edge took off stump leaving the Warriors at 6-266.

Four overs later, Nathan Rimmington had failed to score before being caught behind off the bowling of James Faulkner (2-50).

Ben Hilfenhaus (1-59) then took his first wicket for the Shield season, with Andrew Tye (10) dismissed lbw.

After stumps on Sunday, Fekete told reporters it was essential for Tasmania to get a good start on Monday.

“What happens in the first hour will be crucial in the game,” he said.

Ashton Agar is not out 23 and will resume for the Warriors after lunch with Simon Mackin who is yet to score.
