Hollywood A-listers are renowned for going to town on their Halloween costumes and this year was no exception.

Stars flocked to Instagram to upload snaps of their antics on Friday night, giving their fans an insight into how they celebrated the spooky occasion.

Jennifer Lopez looked smoking in a skin-tight devil bodysuit and partied with Demi Lovato, who dressed as Lucille Ball, and Iggy Azalea, who used her costume to get back at Snoop Dogg after he belittled her on social media.

The rapper recently made fun of Azalea by sharing a meme with his three million followers that compared her with Marlon Wayans' character in comedy White Chicks. But proving she can take a joke, the Australian performer dressed up as the character for Halloween.

While Katy Perry donned an unflattering costume resembling a Cheetos snack, fellow pop superstar Taylor Swift got in touch with her furry side, dressing up as a hybrid Pegasus/unicorn.

Controversial singer Miley Cyrus opted for a more demure outfit than in previous years, paying ode to her godmother Dolly Parton in a sky-high blonde wig with bell-bottom trousers.

Also offering a tribute to her music idols, Beyonce recreated a famous Janet Jackson look while her two-year-old daughter Blue Ivy was decked out to resemble a mini-Michael Jackson.

Halloween was a family affair for Neil Patrick Harris, who dressed up as Batman characters with his husband David Burtka and their twins Gideon and Harper.

Opting for several outfit changes, Kim Kardashian first appeared as a skeleton before changing into an ensemble inspired by notorious American Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Celebrating the occasion away from the US was Mariah Carey, who instead dressed up with her twins Monroe and Moroccan in their Perth hotel before she took the stage at Sandalford Wines for a performance last night.
