Peppa the pig given her trotting orders

Despite a promise from Premier Mike Baird and a community petition to save her bacon, the local council is insisting pre-school pet Peppa the pig has to go.

Peppa is much-loved by the children at Campbelltown pre-school St Andrews Crest.

However, because of A New South Wales health and safety regulation, she has to find a new home.

The law states that ‘swine must not be kept within 60 metres of a dwelling, school, shop, office or public place’.

And, with the council citing complaints from neighbours, Peppa has been given her trotting orders.

Gordon Irsak, from the school, said: “The kids are devastated, they don't want Peppa to go."

Peppa even went all the way to Parliament to plead her case with Premier Baird commenting previously: “We need to find a way, we need to find a solution."

But today the Premier admitted defeat, saying Peppa has no choice but to relocate to Elizabeth MacArthur High School or the MacArthur Centre for Sustainable Living.

Helen Byfield-Fleming, from the centre, said: "Peppa would live in a special pen that we've made a little while ago."

Despite thousands of people signing a petition to save Peppa, the Council says she has to go by Monday. And if the school refuses, the council says it will not rule out taking further action.
