Teen's triumphant Telethon tally

Sixteen-year-old Nick Hall is not your average teenager, having raised over $10,000 since last November for Telethon.

When he is not at school or at one of his three part-time jobs, Nick is out tirelessly raising money for various charities.

The Karratha Senior High School student said it was a life-saving operation at Princess Margaret Children's Hospital in Perth which inspired his passion for fundraising.

"RFDS flew me down to Perth after an infection developed after my appendix exploded - I was in hospital just over two weeks," he said.

"I got to hang out with some of the kids at PMH, all they wanted was to have a better life outside of being in a hospital all the time.

"After seeing how bad they were, I was very passionate (about) helping them, and ever since I've been fundraising and trying to do as many events as I could."

Nick said after his latest fundraiser effort, gift wrapping at the shopping centre, he will have raised well over $10,000 for Telethon after doing two fundraisers a month since last November.

"I just wanted to reach $6000 by the end of the year and we've already well surpassed that," he said.

"I've also been helping mum with fundraising for the Lions Club. We collected eight full tins at FeNaClNG. I'm also doing Stepathon this September where I will aim to do 10,000 steps a day to raise money for kids with cerebral palsy.

"I've also just purchased a fundraising trailer to cater from at events, I'm just looking for some sponsorship to fix up the trailer at the moment."

Nick said he had found his calling with fundraising and hopes one day to turn a passion into a career.

"With all the fundraising experience, it has helped me choose my Year 11 and 12 subject selections. I want to go onto fundraising in the business sector and do whatever I can to help really," he said.

"I would like to thank Coles Karratha for their kind support and donations to help cover costs of shopping for my fundraising campaigns, and David Yakas from Wrapped Creations who is always inviting me along to events to fundraise."

Nick will be flying down to Perth for the Telethon weekend to present a cheque to PMH in late October.
