A lunar phenomenon

People starred in wonder this week as the "supermoon" came into view.

The moon was at its closest point in orbit of the Earth, appearing 14% bigger and much brighter than usual.

Spectators were lucky we had great weather to see it during the full moon. We will probably never see it this large again as the moon drifts about 3cm further away from Earth each year.

The good news is that the naked eye probably won't notice these changes for a few thousand years.
