Projects set for CEO's pipeline

Insight into the future direction for the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River has been provided through the chief executive’s newly adopted performance targets for the next 12 months.

Revealed last week, Gary Evershed’s targets include developing “shovel ready” funding programs for redeveloping the Cultural Centre, an affordable housing strategy, and a review of the East Margaret River structure plan.

The report references a quote credited to Italian painter Michelangelo: “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.”

The report by Mr Evershed adds, “This is true when setting performance targets where there is a high level of trust between the council and CEO so that stretch targets can be set rather than settling for mediocrity.”

Mr Evershed said the targets were “challenging and requiring good co-ordination and delivery of some complex projects and programs”.

Also in the frame between now and April 2015 are a suite of projects including movement on developing chalets at Turner Caravan Park, preparing regional landfill cells at Vidler Road in Dunsborough as well as expanding the Shire dump at Davis Road.

In recreation, bringing the Augusta civic master plan to councillors for adoption, finalising redevelopment of the Ellis Street Jetty precinct, and developing a business case for revitalising the Margaret River Skate Park are also on the CEO’s list.
