Private firms to power future

Imagine you're a household energy consumer in 2030. The sun is shining and the excess energy your rooftop solar panels are producing is stored in a high-tech battery, rather than pumped back into the grid. When you switch on your appliances at night, you draw on the day's last rays of sun before turning to the battery for power.

But the solar panels are not owned by you - they're owned by a private company that leases them back at a fee. And in the event that you buy power from the grid, chances are you won't be buying it from a State-owned power group. A private company will be providing that service, too.

Welcome to WA's energy future, where technology is revolutionising the status quo.

Ky Cao, managing director of private power provider Perth Energy, said it was a rapidly approaching future that required the right settings from the Government.
