Boys fire up for a cause

Fuel the Fire reunite for a more than worthy cause.

Brave Seth Byron and his struggle to beat leukaemia has brought pub rockers Fuel the Fire out of retirement in support.

Three-year-old Seth was diagnosed with leukaemia over Easter and has since been commuting to Perth for treatment.

In an attempt to raise funds for the Byron family, Fuel the Fire will re-form for one night only at Breakers Bar next month.

It’s been five years since Jacko Beije, Ryan Dunn, Jonathan Petrie and Dan Beaver last performed on the Geraldton pub scene.

Beije, who is friends with Seth’s dad, said when he heard about the diagnosis, he wanted to help.

“We were sitting at the pub one night after we had found out and thought, why don’t we get back together and see if we can raise a bit of money,” he said.

“Seth’s dad used to work for me a few years ago and come to a few of our shows.

“We thought a concert would be a great way to help the family out.”

Beiji said the band had been practicing hard.

We’re all best mates and we’ve always jammed, so now we’re just picking up where we left off,” he added.

“In 2009 Birds of Tokyo were big and Kings of Leon, so we’ll be playing a lot of that alternative stuff that people should really like.”

A raffle will also be hosted on the night, with the West Coast Eagles jumping on board and donating a signed guernsey.

Josh Buscumb from AJ Jewellers has donated a piece of jewellery to the raffle.

Beije encouraged Geraldton to dig deep and help out young Seth.

“First and foremost, we want to raise as much money as possible for Seth and help him out as much as possible,” he said.

“Secondly, it’ll just be a really good night out for an even better cause.”

Fuel the Fire will perform at Breakers Bar on June 7, with acts starting from 8.30pm.
