“The Residence:” Beyond first class on Etihad

Etihad Airways has unveiled new luxury living space which will be made available on its A380 aircraft. Dubbed “The Residence,” it is a three-room private cabin with passenegers enjoying a dedicated Savoy-trained butler.

The rooms include a living room, separate double bedroom and a private ensuite shower room.

The living room features a large 32 inch LCD TV, whilst the bedroom boasts its own 27 inch LCD TV.

The new Airbus will only feature one residence per plane fitting two passengers, something unprecedented in commercial airline travel.

All this luxury doesn’t come without a matching price tag with a flight from Abu Dhabi to London in the residence class expected to cost more than $20,000.

Etihad is planning to bring its A380s to the Abu Dhabi to Sydney and Melbourne routes, beginning with Sydney in 2015.

In addition to “The Residence” Etihad Airways' new Airbus will have new “First Apartments,” nine private suites with a separate reclining lounge seat and full-length bed, as well as a chilled mini-bar, personal vanity unit and wardrobe.

The first class “apartments” are 74 per cent larger than the existing first class and feature a reclining lounge chair and expanding ottoman. It is the ottoman, not the seat that expands into the bed.

The first class cabin also features a bathroom with a shower for guests.

If for some reason you want to leave these plush suites, the planes will host The Lobby, a serviced lounge and bar area located between the First and Business cabins of the A380 featuring a semi-circular leather sofa, a marquetry table and a large TV screen.
