Bypass speed reduction proposal

Bypass speed reduction proposal

The Dardanup Shire Council will write to Main Roads WA to have the speed limit of the Australind Bypass Road between Treendale and the Sanctuary Golf Resort intersections reduced.

The new proposed speed limit will be 90kmh, down from its present limit of 110kmh, on both the north and south bound lanes.

The Roadwise Committee put the submission to the council for approval after two fatalities at the intersection of Hynes Road and the Australind Bypass in the past seven years.

Australind Police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Peter Hayes said he supported the proposal because there had been a number of serious and fatal crashes there over the past few months.

“It had been raised by the Roadwise Committee previously to have that stretch of road looked at, ” he said.

“It is a well-designed stretch of road, it is just the speed zoning which has been put in place isn’t being complied with, so a generic speed zone for the whole area would be better.”
