Busselton pedestrian hit by car

A 73-year-old West Busselton man is in a serious but stable condition after being hit by a car at a Busselton intersection on Wednesday afternoon.

Busselton police sergeant Todd Carrington said it is understood the man had stepped off the median strip at the intersection of Bussell Highway and Queen Elizabeth Avenue and into the path of the oncoming Nissan Navara with a trailer, which was travelling west on Bussell Highway.

Sgt Carrington denied rumours it was a hit and run incident.

Police closed Queen Elizabeth Avenue and sections of Bussell Highway following the incident, which occurred around 4.10pm, to process the serious crash as a crime scene and a forensics team travelled from Bunbury to assist.

The pedestrian was transported to Busselton Hospital by St John Ambulance but was later transferred to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries including bleeding from the brain and fractures to the right femur.

Sgt Carrington said no charges have been laid and an investigation into the incident was ongoing.
