Durack heads home for star wedding
Lucy Durack has made a name for herself as one of Australia's most celebrated performers based in Sydney and Melbourne.
But when it came to planning her wedding, for the City Beach-raised star there is no place like home.
The Helpmann Award-winning actress will tie the knot with fiance Chris Horsey, one of Australia's top choreographers and an original Tap Dog, next weekend on Rottnest Island.
"It was always a dream to get married on Rottnest," Durack told _The Weekend West _. "I spent every summer of my life pretty much at Rottnest, we always went across as a family, and I have taken Chris across four or five times and we said it would be nice to get married there some day.
"Pretty much as soon as he proposed to me in June of last year, we called Mum and she booked it straight away.
"It is such a beautiful place and it holds so many special memories."
Supported by her sisters as her bridesmaids, Durack will wear a custom-made Rachel Gilbert gown when she walks down the aisle surrounded by family and friends, many of whom will fly in from around the globe, including her former Wicked co-star Bert Newton.
"I can't give too much away about the dress, but the designer Rachel Gilbert, who has designed a lot of my opening night dresses in the past, has designed my wedding dress and I love it," she said.
"I tried it on the other night with my Mum and my sisters and we all got very excited."
Also heading west for the big day is Dancing with the Stars judge and one of Horsey's former Tap Dogs co-stars Adam Garcia, who will act as MC, but the couple's beloved dog Takse won't be part of the celebrations.
"Because we are getting married on Rottnest and the quokka factor, sadly Takse will have to stay with some of my sisters' friends," Durack said.
After a 10-day honeymoon in Bali, Durack heads straight into rehearsals for her return to the stage in Melbourne in May as Glinda the Good Witch in the 10th anniversary tour of blockbuster musical Wicked, the role that put her on the map.
"The Wicked people have been very good in helping me work out the best way to get married and still be able to do Wicked," she said.
