As fireworks lit up the Perth sky last night, a sea of orange spread across the city as elated Scorchers fans moved the party on from the WACA Ground.

It was the biggest night of entertainment in Perth in recent memory and things were just heating up as the Perth Scorchers took out the Big Bash League final and the Spanish fireworks theatre spectacle Veles e Vents kicked off the Perth International Arts festival in front of a crowd of several thousand on Langley Park.

Perth Arena hosted the second of Bruce Springsteen's three sold-out concerts, and in the Cultural Centre, hundreds of people packed the Urban Orchard for Fringe World events.

The food stalls at the popular Twilight Hawkers Market in Forrest Place were doing a roaring trade as people sought out a meal before the night's events began.

Jacqui Doran, of Bayswater, said she and her friends went to the market for dinner before heading to the Urban Orchard to enjoy Perth's big night.

"Five years ago there was nothing like this," Ms Doran said.

"It's a really good atmosphere and great to see so many people out and about."

Earlier in the afternoon, a record Perth Big Bash League crowd of more than 20,000 soaked up the afternoon rays as the team hosted their third BBL decider.

Naomi Chapman, who was at the cricket with her husband, Ed Greenway, and three children, said her family regularly attended Scorchers games and had been making the most of what was on offer in Perth this summer.

Ms Chapman said there was a great vibe at the WACA Ground yesterday and she felt spoilt for choice with family-friendly events at this time of year.

"These types of events the kids really enjoy," she said. "It's short and they make it really fun."
