World's worst Christmas tree in Geelong?

A Geelong Christmas tree with a modern twist has been dubbed the world's worst by Geelong’s colourful new mayor.

Darryn Lyons has slammed the wooden tree as 'the worst in the world' and said it should be cut up and made into cricket bats for the English cricket team.

He has also blasted council’s own marketing department and its taste in trees.

“Oh it’s the world’s worst Christmas tree,” he said.

“It’s an absolute disgrace.”

And it cost ratepayers $30,000.

While locals are divided on the wooden tree, Mayor Lyons would be happy to see it go.

“I think I'd rather donate it to the English cricket team,” he said.

“They can cut a few bats out of it and see how they go in the Melbourne test match.”

He is already in talks with designers about a different tree next year.
