Ban puts Pike out of Perth Cup ride

Top jockey William Pike has received a 16-day suspension for careless riding at Ascot today and will miss the Perth Cup on January 1.

Pike has chosen to begin his ban after riding at next Saturday's Cox Stakes and WA St Leger meeting.

"William Pike was charged with careless riding as a result of causing interference on second placegetter Sovereign Debt in the eighth race," chief steward Brad Lewis said

Pike had ridden in dashing style when earlier landing a winning double on Son Of Something and Veeten.

Son Of Something overcame a wide barrier to win the $60,000 Country Challenge Final (1500m).
