White light on home violence

WA Police are imploring victims of domestic and family violence to come forward on world White Ribbon Day today.

Of the 148 male White Ribbon ambassadors in WA, 16 are police officers.

Police spokeswoman Susan Usher said despite a violence restraining order, victims could still be the target of violence.

In one recent case, a 40-year-old man tried to exert power and control over his 36-year-old partner as he destroyed belongings and used a kitchen knife to slash all the tyres on her car.

He was jailed for seven months for breaching his partner's violence restraining order.

Ms Usher said government and non-government agencies, as well as businesses, were working together to assist families in crisis and keep victims safe.

Anyone experiencing violence in the home can call the Domestic Violence National Helpline on 1800 2000 526 or police on 131 444.
