Bushfire flares up

A bushfire in the Hawkesbury area has flared again with residents told to watch for spot fires.

The fire was burning at Lower Portland on the Hawkesbury River and has burnt more than 110 hectares

Several local roads have been closed and water bombing aircraft were called in to help with the blaze.

It was upgraded to watch and act earlier today.

Residents along Jones Road and Turnbulls Arm are being urged to watch for falling embers and spot fires.

Several local streets were closed - including West Portland Road.

The fire threatened local homes yesterday but crews gained the upper hand overnight.

A NSW Rural Fire Servies media release said firefighters will continue to work behind homes overnight as they backburn along the eastern side of West Portland Road between Packer Road and Lower Colo Road in order to protect properties.

The fires remain uncontained but do not pose an immediate threat to property.
